By downloading, registering for, or using the SURD app, you agree to the collection and handling of your information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
- Account & Authentication: When you sign in via Google Sign-In or Email OTP, we collect your verified email address, Google unique account ID, display name, and avatar picture.
- Profile Data: Campus domain, branch, division, graduation year, bio, and business merchant information (if applicable).
- User Content: Chat messages (community rooms, sub-communities, direct messages, anonymous groups), posts, comments, likes, and photos/media you choose to upload.
- Device & Diagnostics: App version, operating system version, push notification tokens, and temporary connection metadata to maintain real-time chats.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide, operate, and maintain chat rooms, direct messaging, and community features.
- To authenticate users securely via Google Sign-In and OTP verification.
- To deliver notifications about incoming messages and community announcements.
- To enforce security, combat spam, and protect users. In anonymous group chats, messages are assigned daily randomized aliases to prevent personal identity disclosure.
3. Third-Party Services & Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We only share information with trusted infrastructure providers required to operate the service:
Google Play & Google Sign-In
Provides secure single-sign-on authentication and app distribution via Google Play Services.
Cloudinary Cloud Storage
Encrypted cloud storage for user-uploaded chat photos and profile pictures.
Expo Push Notifications
Delivers encrypted push notification alerts to your mobile device.
4. Data Retention & Account Deletion
You have full ownership of your data:
- Edit & Modify: You can edit profile information and preferences at any time in the app settings.
- Delete Messages: You can delete messages you have sent in direct message threads or group rooms.
- Account Deletion: You can request complete, permanent deletion of your account and personal data at any time through the app settings or by contacting
noreply@surd.me. Data is permanently purged within 30 days.
5. Children's Privacy
SURD is designed for college campus communities and adult users. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately for deletion.
